Forwarding Database Maintenance
The Forwarding Database commands can be used to view information and to delete a MAC address
from the forwarding database or to clear the entire forwarding database. This is helpful in
identifying problems associated with MAC address learning and packet forwarding decisions.
Table 248 FDB Manipulation Commands
Command Syntax and Usage
show mac-address-table address <MAC address>
Displays a single database entry by its MAC address. If not specified, you are prompted for
the MAC address of the device. Enter the MAC address using one of the following formats:
xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (such as 08:00:20:12:34:56)
xxxxxxxxxxxx (such as 080020123456)
Command mode: All except User EXEC
show mac-address-table interface port <port number or alias>
Displays all FDB entries for a particular port.
Command mode: All except User EXEC
show mac-address-table vlan <VLAN number>
Displays all FDB entries on a single VLAN.
Command mode: All except User EXEC
show mac-address-table state {forward|trunk|unknown}
Displays all FDB entries of a particular state.
Command mode: All except User EXEC
show mac-address-table multicast
Displays all Multicast MAC entries in the FDB.
Command mode: All
no mac-address-table {<MAC address>|all}
Removes static FDB entries.
Command mode: All except User EXEC
